Sunset Trumpet

The Sail Europe Around 2023 expedition, the first Romanian adventure expedition arrives at D’Arc on the Shore with a premiere: the first outbound event in the Circumeuropa circuit!

Before the musical West Side Story as part of the Flight Festival, on Saturday, June 24th, from 19:30, you are invited to watch a unique concert with Petre Ionuțescu in a live broadcast from the Bosphorus. All connected by a European capital of culture: Timișoara.

“The Ottoman past of Timișoara is left in the shadows, as if they want us to be proud of the Banatian empire only with the empire from the west. We came to experience the wonderful art of Petre Ionuțescu in front of the Gate. What could be more beautiful than a trumpet from Banat resounding in the sunset on the Bosphorus, witnessed by our dear Timișoara residents?” Cristian Ilea, SEA 2023 expedition coordinator

Already three weeks on the water, the SEA 2023 Expedition brings the Circumeuropa crew to the Sea of Marmara in Istanbul. The project aims to be both a “caravan” project on the water, but also a scientific expedition that set off on May 27 with the boat “Vulpea” from the Pod 16 area, through the Sânmihaiu Român and Uivar sluices, on the Danube and then by sea to Elefsina, Greece. With the help of the sailing ship Gaia, which took over the mission, the crew will “circumnavigate” the European continent and return to Timișoara from the North Sea on the network of canals, rivers and the Danube at the end of the year.

The route includes the first stage of the water journey around Europe, on the Timișoara – Elefsina route.

“The expedition aims to become an umbrella event, offering a special framework for cultural exchange with the cities it will reach and to host cultural ambassadors from Timișoara on the different navigation segments” Alex Mihăescu, Circumeuropa cultural program coordinator.

SEA 2023 Circumeuropa is part of the TM2023 cultural program and will take the cultural capital around Europe through the Circumeuropa crew which consists of: Cristian Ilea, operator and director of photography, the initiator and coordinator of the expedition; Oana Isabella Gavriliuc, the biologist who will measure the marine biodiversity by investigating the invisible life of the aquatic ecosystems on the route; Valentin Bogdan, geologist, speleologist and skipper; Cosmin Jitariuc, journalist and skipper and Alex Mihăescu, Circumeuropa cultural program coordinator.
