Circumeuropa completed the first leg of the expedition in the summer of 2023 under the umbrella of the European Cultural Capital

The Circumeuropa crew’s S E A 2023 expedition, a project that breaks the classical format, a “caravan” on water that began on 27 May 2023, stopped temporarily in August in Lefkada, will continue into 2024.

The initiators hope that their project will give a new dimension to a new axis of development of Timisoara, along the Bega canal, in a truly original and very ambitious way, starting from the symbolic value that such a project can have for the mother city – optimism, hope for a better future and, unquestionably, a source of pride for the whole polis, to all future concrete results. The initiative belongs to Cristian Ilea, skipper, president of Wild Watch Romania and image director. The 2023 crew was completed by Cosmin Jitariuc (TV journalist), Oana Gavriliuc (biologist) and Valentin Bogdan (owner of the boat Gaia).

The documentary Circumeuropa – “The Beginning” aims to show the Timisoara public the journey of the crew on the water, to highlight the cultural experiences created along the way and the efforts of the crew to complete the expedition.

The screening will take place on 29 February, at the Victoria Cinema, from 20.00, and will create the space for free discussions about the navigable future of the region, the tourism potential of the Bega Canal and what is needed to make this a reality. Dialogue partners will be members of the Sluices on Bega team, who are also promoters of the idea of navigation on the Bega.

The project is part of the National Cultural Programme “Timisoara – European Capital of Culture in 2023” and is funded by the European Echoes programme, run by the Timisoara City Council Project Centre, with funds allocated from the state budget, through the Ministry of Culture budget.
