PRESS RELEASE
21 February 2022
CIRCUMEUROPA, the first sea-river expedition of a Romanian crew around Europe, ready for launch.
The Wild Watch Association announces the launch of CIRCUMEUROPA, the first Romanian maritime expedition of a Romanian crew around Europe. The prospect of this unique expedition in Romania encompasses both the scientific dimension by investigating the level of water pollution the crew will navigate through, and the cultural one, sailing and generating performances in over 15 current and former European Capitals of Culture. Linking five rivers, four seas, five oceans and five straits, with one boat, the ideal ambassador of the fact that Timisoara is accessible from the water, through this cultural and scientific exploration we have identified the need to increase the awareness that the river Bega can be an important gateway to any place in Europe. Starting from Romania, the route of the exploration includes Serbia, Bulgaria, Turkey, Greece, Italy, Malta, France, Spain, Portugal, UK, Belgium, Netherlands, Germany, Austria, Slovakia and Hungary, passing through some of the current and former European Capitals of Culture.
“Healthy waters are fundamental to all life on earth, but unfortunately they are in a critical time right now. Culture is essential to our becoming intelligent beings. Sport is the foundation of human health. We are determined to do all we can to help. It is a challenge to become proactive in the coming years when we talk about the environment and culture. This is an opportunity to make a significant impact at European level. Through Culture, Science and Sport we have the power to accelerate change, we have no time to lose.” Cristian Ilea, initiator CIRCUMEUROPA.
To launch this expedition with cultural and research implications, the team CIRCUMEUROPA team is open to collaborations, encouraging the involvement of funders and partners. To this end, we invite those who wish to collaborate to contact us by e-mail and telephone
