PREMIERE! By boat from Timisoara around Europe. When the expedition takes place
A national first expedition will be organised by a Timisoara native. Cristian Ilea has set out to circumnavigate Europe by boat, starting from Timisoara. The unusual journey will take place in two stages, this autumn and between April and July 2023.
The Wild Watch Association, founded by Cristian Ilea from Timișoara, announces the launch of an unique project called Circumeuropa. It is the first sea-river expedition of a Romanian crew around Europe. Basically, Cristian Ilea proposes to leave Timișoara on the Bega, with a boat, and sail through 15 of the current and former European capitals of culture.
“The prospect of this unique expedition in Romania encompasses both the scientific dimension by researching the level of pollution of the waters through which the crew will sail, and the cultural one, sailing and generating performances in over 15 of the current and former European capitals of culture. Linking 5 rivers, 4 seas, an ocean and 5 straits, with a boat, the ideal ambassador of the fact that Timisoara is also accessible by water, through this cultural-scientific exploration we identified the need to raise awareness that the Bega River can be an important gateway to any place in Europe”, the Wild Watch Association said.
Basically, starting from Romania, the route of the trip includes Serbia, Bulgaria, Turkey, Greece, Italy, Malta, France, Spain, Portugal, UK, Belgium, Netherlands, Germany, Austria, Slovakia and Hungary.
“Healthy waters are fundamental to all life on earth, but unfortunately they are at a critical juncture right now. Culture is essential to our becoming intelligent beings. Sport is the foundation of human health. We are determined to do all we can to help. It is a huge challenge to become proactive in the coming years when we talk about the environment and culture. This is an opportunity to make a significant impact at European level. Through culture, science and sport we have the power to accelerate change, we have no time to lose,” said Cristian Ilea, initiator of Circumeuropa.
The project will run in two phases. From 1 September to 30 November, the crew will sail from Timisoara on the route Novi Sad – Sulina – Istanbul – Thessaloniki – Athens – Eleusis – Patras – Matera – Valletta – Genoa – Marseille and Gibraltar. The second leg will run from 15 April to 1 July 2023, on the route Gibraltar – Lisbon – Porto – San Sebastian – Bruges – Rotterdam – Amsterdam – Essen – Linz – Pecs – Novi Sad – Timișoara.
Cristian Ilea has been an image director for over 25 years, founded the Wildlife Romania project, the first virtual Zoo with wild animals in the wild, has been sailing for over 20 years and is the president/founder of Wild Watch since 2015.
